What’s the difference between homeopathy and naturopathy?

Published Categorized as Naturopathy
Society’s Voice advocates for Naturopathic treatments for a variety of physical and mental disabilities.

You may hear both about homeopathy and naturopathy in the search for a comprehensive approach to your health. These two ideals lead to the root cause of a problem being identified, in order to treat a patient fundamentally. However, both thought schools have various philosophies and stages in the treatment of a patient. Homeopathy and naturopathy have a holistic approach to things but knowing how the differences between homeopathy and naturopathy are.

Naturopathy Versus Homeopathy

Naturopathy is a system for healing power that is holistic. In order to optimize the body’s power to heal, the discipline employs a variety of methods, including diet, exercise, acupuncture, therapy, and natural medicines.

It’s totally different from homeopathy. It is based on a concept known as the “Law of Similars.” A homeopathic practitioner conducts an extensive interview and compares the symptoms of a patient with the symptoms that might arise after consuming a specific drug, using a guidebook called Materia Medica. He or she will then prepare a solution in which the material has been diluted to the point where only a “memory” of it remains.

Naturopathic Medicine

There are six different principles in the basic philosophy of naturopathic medicine:

  • The healing power of nature. The body is very much inclined toward wellbeing, like biological processes in the body. NDs aim to eliminate certain difficulties to a healthy condition of the body.
  • Identify and treat the cause. Rather than only treating external disease conditions, the NDs are actively searched for and eradicated from the root cause.
  • First Do No Harm. Do not harm patients, means reducing the risk of complications with medication, using as little force and working with the patient and where they are in the treatment as needed.
  • Doctor as Teacher. N Ds take time teaching their patients regarding their bodies and factors, such as dietary habits to optimize their health. A typical first visit with a natural therapist may last 1-2 hours or approximately 0.25-1 hours.
  • Treat the Entire Person. The whole person is considered, including the mind, body, and spirit, as well as environmental, social, genetic, and other factors that affect the patient’s health.
  • Prevention. NDs agree that the most effective type of medicine is prevention, and they evaluate possible risks as well as genetic components of disease, working with patients to develop suitable preventive measures to diseases.

Homeopathic Medicine

The theory of homeopathic medicine is founded on four pillars.

  • The Law of Similars states that if two things are similar, they are similar. Homeopathy is based on the principle of “like cures like.” A sick patient is given a homeopathic cure if the main symptom is the same as the side effects a healthy person experiences when given the same remedy.
  • The Single Remedy. One homeopathic remedy is very particular for all of the symptoms a patient is experiencing, and that one correct remedy, also known as the similimum, is the ultimate cure for all of the patient’s illnesses, taking into account the physical symptom image, the patient’s disposition, their emotional state, and their overall constituency.
  • The Minimum Dose. Homeopaths agree that the best treatment is the least invasive, comparable to Naturopathic Medicine. According to homeopaths, the smallest dose is needed for the greatest effect.
  • Provings. Provings are stable patients who are taking homeopathic drugs and keeping meticulous records of their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. These provings are then used in the care of a case as signs, or keynotes as they are known.

While both Naturopathy and Homeopathy are known holistic medicine modalities, Naturopathy has a broader set of possible treatments, including homeopathy. Homeopaths tend to treat their patients exclusively with homeopathic medicine. To further promote the use of Naturopathic medicine, further research on the use of Naturopathic methods, as well as mixed methods usually used in a clinical setting, is needed. Clinical research on homeopathy is extremely difficult to conduct in the current biomedical model since each treatment is provided on an individual basis, making controlled and screened study findings impossible to use. Homeopathy has fallen out of favor in the mainstream medical world due to a lack of clinical evidence, but further studies on the use of homeopathy will potentially shed more light on its effectiveness and protection as a potential treatment choice.
